5 Places to Visit in Daegu During the Fall

I absolutely love fall and enjoy walking everywhere but especially during this time because the scenery is beautiful and the weather is cool and refreshing. There is something so peaceful about hearing the rustle of the leaves on the ground as you stroll by or watching the leaves slowly be carried away by the wind. Daegu is beautiful year-round but there is something special about fall. So here are places I highly recommend you visit during the fall time! (In my opinion mid-October to the beginning of November is the best time to travel)

1. 달성습지 – Dalseong Wetland

This place was absolutely beautiful and it was thanks to a coworker that I discovered it. It is a little out of the way if you don’t have a car and it’s not very convenient by bus (which is surprising in Korea!). So, if you want to go here I recommend getting a Kakao taxi which tends to be less expensive than a regular taxi. It’s also a popular place for couples and ajusshi/ajummas who are (intensely) exercising so I also recommend getting there in the morning or right after work. The day I went with my coworker it was 5pm and expected to rain so I maybe saw three people. Thankfully it started to rain right after we left so we were able to enjoy a nice walk. It’s a pretty place to take pictures, walk around and just enjoy the feeling of being out of the city.

2. 팔공산 – Palgonsan Mountain

This is a very popular place to see the fall foliage so it can get crowded at times and you will wait in line for the cable cart. The ride in the cable cart was amazing because the colors were so bright and beautiful. But what I enjoyed most was the ride up the mountain to get to the cable cart. My friend and I originally rode the bus but it was so crowded and we were standing up and the bus driver was crazily driving through traffic we thought our arms were going to fall off. So, we decided to pay a little more and get a taxi. Wow, what a great decision. Our taxi driver was super kind and was able to avoid heavy traffic on a Sunday afternoon. We rode with the windows down and I was just captivated by the beauty of the trees around me. There is also a place to get off and walk up the mountain if you want (but it is quite the exercise). As I mentioned, it’s a popular place so expect traffic and to wait in line. But I recommend taking the taxi up to the cable cart because it was so much more enjoyable than the bus and no one was blocking my view nor did I feel that I was holding on for dear life.

3. 성모당 – The Downtown Campus of Daegu Catholic University

This place is not very well known and it’s very easy to pass by and miss it. But when you get on campus you will see families, students, nuns, etc. walking around, sitting under a tree, or talking over some coffee from the local coffee shop. There were people around, but it still felt like I was not in the city even though it’s located downtown. It is a peaceful atmosphere and you can learn about the history of the campus as you walk around. You can come to light a candle and walk or sit outside. However, I don’t recommend going in large groups or talking very loudly because many people come here to pray so please be mindful.

4. 수성못 – Suseong Pond

It’s a pretty pond with a paved/dirt sidewalk that goes around. It's usually busy but big enough that it doesn’t feel too crowded. Lots of restaurants, cafes and little shops you can go to.

5. 이월드 – E-World

The biggest amusement park in Daegu and it’s another very popular place that almost everyone knows. What is really nice about this place is that you can get a great view of the park without having to pay. But if you want to get the best view and take some cool pictures then you will pay to go up the 83 Tower Observatory. Don’t worry you can get discounted tickets for $5 from Trazy beforehand.

This is the best time of the year and what is so nice about Korea is that you don’t have to go to a specific place to take pretty fall pictures. Just walking around your neighborhood to work or from the grocery store you can see the leaves change and stroll through some beautiful scenery.
