Strolls and Paddle Boats in the Queen City

When people are looking for things to do in Charlotte, NC, they often stay in Uptown and miss out on what the rest of the city has to offer. Uptown is convenient because you can walk around easily, unlike the outskirts of the city, where the sidewalks can suddenly end. However, I discovered a new spot a few years ago that is perfect for enjoying safe walks and paddle boat rides, all while sipping on a delicious drink.

The Boardwalk at University is a small lake surrounded by stores, restaurants, and bars, with a sidewalk looping all the way around so you can enjoy a pleasant walk with a lovely view. If you are in the mood for something more exciting, you can rent a paddleboat for $15 for 30 minutes as well. You will have a fun and relaxing experience as you paddle your way around the fountains and next to cute baby ducks. This small piece of nature can offer an escape from the bustling area surrounding it.

With access to restaurants, dessert shops, a playground for the kids, and a nice backdrop to take pictures for any occasion, the Boardwalk is an all-in-one package.

I know many people who like to go to the Boardwalk to get a unique, Instagram-worthy dessert from Ninety’s Ice Cream, such as their Fruity Pebbles milkshake. For those like me, who don’t like sweet things, one of my favorite boba tea cafes in the area is luckily a 5-minute drive from the Boardwalk. Tea Fusion offers a variety of flavors from lychee to avocado and delicious quick bites such as the popcorn chicken or their Vietnamese subs Bánh Mì. When I visit I pick up my passionfruit boba and head over to the Boardwalk to sip on my drink while I take a stroll around the lake.

I have learned this year that the small things can really make our day, and that’s why I enjoy going here. I highly recommend visiting the Boardwalk, and as you sip on your boba (or your milkshake) you will realize how time flies while enjoying a walk and watching the sunset in good company.
